Jonah sits outside the city of Nineveh hoping for its destruction. He was full of anger and hatred for his enemies and wanted nothing but their judgment. He was full of self-righteousness and was blind to his hypocrisy in desiring grace and mercy for himself and his people but judgment and destruction for those he despised. God attempted to call him to compassion but though admonished by God the story ends with no repentance for Jonah. Let's make sure that the same enduring love, grace and mercy of God we so appreciate we are ready to extend to even those we despise. Jesus modeled this for us and desires to love through us in the same way.
