"Putting Off Your Old Self" Ephesians 4:20-23

When we come to know Christ experientially we are brought into union with Him and given a new nature.  Before Christ it was natural for man to sin but when we believe upon Him, to receive Him and to give our lives to Him He gives us new nature and a whole new way of living.  Paul now reminds us that we must be intentional in putting off everything that doesn't fit our new identity as the beloved sons of God.  We will still be tempted to sin but we remind ourselves of what is true of us and then put off every attitude and action that is contrary to Christ.  His life in us is the power and source for a whole new way of living.
