"David Anointed King" 1 Samuel 16

God told Samuel to go an anoint a new king from the house of Jesse in Bethlehem. Jesse had 8 sons and 7 were presented before Samuel and Samuel thought for sure he knew who would be selected but the Lord told him that He was choosing a king not based on outward appearance but one who had a heart for God. They send for David who was the youngest and seen fit only for taking care of sheep and yet God chose him to be king instead of Saul. Just as the Holy Spirit came upon David, He left Saul and Saul was tormented by another spirit. In this way David comes to serve Saul and play music for him that had a calming effect on Saul. God had chosen a new king but Saul was not ready to give up his place or power.
