Israel had once again rebelled against the Lord and worshipped the false gods of the land. The result was they were under the oppression of the Midianites. In their despair they cry out to the Lord and God calls an unlikely person to lead them to victory. Gideon was full of fear and thought he had nothing to offer the Lord but the Lord calls him a mighty man of valor and promises to go with him and bring victory.
