With the Golden Rule Jesus establishes a new paradigm where we don't treat people as they treat us but we treat others as we desire to be treated. This is the fulfilment of the Law. It isn't a reciprocal relationship but one that flows from His indwelling presence. He lives in us in order to express His life through us and that will always look like Him and attract the same kind of people. The self-righteous despise the grace of God because they are blind to their own desperate need.
