"Not Because of Your Righteousness" Deuteronomy 9:1-7

The Lord gives them the promise that they will cross the Jordon and defeat all of the nations in their path and they are to be completely destroyed. God was going before them as a consuming fire but it wasn't because of Israel's righteousness for they had been rebellious from the day he brought them out of slavery. The Lord was fulfilling His promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. None of us come to the Lord and receive His blessings and goodness because of our own righteousness. Righteousness is a gift that we receive through faith in His finished work on the cross. However, righteousness is most certainly to be expressed through those who have become righteous by grace through faith.
